Flexural buckling of normal and high strength steel CHS columns

چکیده

This paper presents an experimental and numerical investigation into the stability of normal high strength steel circular hollow section (CHS) columns. Two cold-formed S700 CHS profiles – 139.7×4 139.7×5 (in mm), were studied in programme, twelve column tests (six on each profile), together with accompanying material tests, performed. The load-deformation histories key results from are reported. Following physical testing, a simulation campaign was conducted. developed finite element (FE) models for columns initially validated against test results. Parametric studies then carried out, where 2000 additional buckling resistance data numerically generated hot-finished columns, covering grades S355 to S900. obtained FE results, existing literature, used assess current Eurocode 3 design rules. It shown that normalised performance is influenced by yield strength, which not fully captured EC3 approach. somewhat conservative Class slenderness limit compression further worsen accuracy those slender cross-sections. Improvements rules proposed address these shortcomings, including (a) modified Ayrton-Perry formulae enabling continuous transition curves across spectrum (b) new compression. approach assessed improve consistency predictions over approach, while meeting structural reliability requirements.

Flexural Performance of High-strength Prestressed Concrete-encased Concrete-filled Steel Tube Sections

The sections composed of concrete and steel, which include concrete-encased concrete-filled tubes, generally have defects due to the low tensile strength of concrete. Therefore, an appropriate method was used for the combination of concrete-filled tubes (CFT) and prestressing strands which is encased in concrete. The conventional design guidelines are commonly developed for materials with norma...

Slippage of Steel in High and Normal Strength Concrete

Composite action of any reinforced concrete member is only possible if sufficient bond strength exists between steel reinforcing bars and concrete, which can adequately transfer shear stress between them. Bond strength is a function of compressive strength of concrete and hence high strength concrete has higher bond strength [1-2]. Therefore required development length can be reduced. In order ...

High Strength Concrete Columns under Axial Compression Load: Hybrid Confinement Efficiency of High Strength Transverse Reinforcement and Steel Fibers

Addition of steel fibers to high strength concrete (HSC) improves its post-peak behavior and energy absorbing capability, which can be described well in term of toughness. This paper attempts to obtain both analytically and experimentally the efficiency of steel fibers in HSC columns with hybrid confinement of transverse reinforcement and steel fibers. Toughness ratio (TR) to quantify the confi...

Buckling of liquid columns.

Under appropriate conditions, a column of viscous liquid falling onto a rigid surface undergoes a buckling instability. Here we show experimentally and theoretically that liquid buckling exhibits a hitherto unsuspected complexity involving three different modes-viscous, gravitational, and inertial-depending on how the viscous forces that resist bending of the column are balanced. We also find t...
